When we think about food delivery, we picture the joy of a hot meal arriving at our doorstep, but behind every delivery is a story of perseverance, humanity, and silent struggles. This project wasn’t just about designing a tipping mechanism—it was about bridging the emotional gap between Customers and our beloved Delivery Agents, acknowledging their efforts, and creating an experience that spoke to the heart.

It all began during a conversation with one of our delivery agent named Avinash. He shared how each delivery wasn’t just a job but a battle against unpredictable weather, traffic, and the weight of expectations. His voice cracked when he spoke about customers who offered a simple "thank you" or a small tip—it wasn’t just about the money; it was about feeling valued. These stories echoed in interviews with other agents—stories of resilience, sacrifice, and the silent pride of delivering joy to others while sometimes skipping their own meals. It was clear: the design needed to reflect empathy, appreciation, and ease while maintaining transparency.

The tipping mechanism on the cart page became more than just a feature; it was a gesture of gratitude. Every interaction was designed to be thoughtful and human-centric: Instead of a generic "Tip your delivery agent," we introduced prompts like: "A little extra can make someone's day." "Show appreciation for your delivery hero, etc. These messages were crafted to inspire empathy, encouraging users to reflect on the effort behind their orders. Small, relatable visuals—a delivery agent braving the rain or smiling while holding a meal—were added to subtly remind users of the challenges they face. These illustrations served as quiet nudges for empathy. A short line highlighted the agent’s journey: "Ramesh has delivered 8 orders today and is on his way to you now." This personalization connected customers to the human behind their meal. Transparency and Trust: Customers could see exactly how their tips would benefit the agent, with a clear breakdown of the impact (e.g., "100% of your tip goes to Ramesh"). Transparency turned generosity into trust. We also included data based suggestions for inclusivity like suggesting a list of default tipping amounts (e.g., ₹20, ₹50, ₹100) were shown to the customers to choose from.
